Be empowered and learn as you make the 18” Amidala’s Flower block, the center of our fantasy Amidala’s Flower Mini-quilt X. Its beauty gets added depth by combining appliqué with reverse appliqué.

It’s fun and easy with Eye of the Beholder Quilt Design’s Trace, Snip, Iron & Stitch process. Get the beauty of machine reverse appliqué and appliqué in a third of the time with iron-on fusible and satin stitch.Learn tricks and tips for beautifully satin stitched inside and outside points and smooth circles. I will lead you step by step through the process, empowering you to do reverse appliqué and appliqué by machine.

Required: Amidala’s Flower mini-quilt X pattern - $22.00 print/ $16.50 digital. Pattern purchased separately, at www.eobquiltdesign.com.

SUPPLY LIST: is to make 1 – 18” x 18” Amidala’s Flower Block. (Total yardage for the mini-quilt is in the pattern.)

See below for PREPARATION BEFORE CLASS.*

  • 1 - 19 ½” x 19 ½” square of batik, top fabric of your choice (Cream/ turquoise in our pictures)

  • 1 - 19 ½” x 19 ½” square of batik, background fabric (green stems & leaves in our pictures)

  • 3 colors of scraps, up to a fat quarter each of batik, appliqué (flower petals and parts)

  • 1 – 18” x 18” square & 1 – 9” x 9” square paper-backed, iron-on fusible

  • 1 – 18” x 18” & 1 – 8” x 11” wash-away or tear away fabric stabilizer, or Terial Magic spray-on stabilizer

  • Threads for machine stitching (SAME COLORS as top & appliqué fabrics)

  • 9 - 10 pins for pin basting (straight or safety)

  • Mechanical pencil for tracing pattern onto paper side of fusible

  • 1 pair small, sharp scissors 

  • Sewing machine that has a zig-zag stitch

  • New, sharp sewing machine needle (bring an extra)

  • Open toed sewing machine foot

*PREPARATION BEFORE CLASS:

1. Purchase Amidala’s Flower mini-quilt X pattern, print or digital PDF from www.eobquiltdesign.com. (If you purchase the digital PDF pattern be sure to read the information on the website and follow the directions for printing the pattern pieces FULL SIZE or ACTUAL SIZE. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.)

 2. Cut 1 – 18” x 18” square of Paper-backed iron-on fusible. Cut 1 – 9” x 9” square of paper-backed, iron-on fusible.

 3. Using your 18” x 18” square of paper-backed, iron-on fusible, follow the directions for Pattern Marking, steps 1 & 2, under the heading Machine Reverse Applique with Applique, Center Medallion, on page 4. Note: You do not need to trace all the cross-hatched lines inside the cross-hatched shapes.

 4. Using your 9” x 9” square of paper-backed, iron-on fusible, follow the directions for Pattern Marking, Ironing and Trimming, step 1, under the heading Machine Applique, Center Flower on page 4. If you are feeling confident, you may do steps 2, 3 & 4. Otherwise we will do those together in class. If you do step 4, I suggest you use small baggies to keep your pieces from getting lost
