Reverse appliqué with applique pattern – instructions for hand or machine and machine piecing

Susan Elizabeth Walker (1863-1955) was my Great-Grandmother. She created a body of exquisitely stitched handwork that I grew up admiring.

Susan Elizabeth’s Block (22” x 22”) is a quilt transription of a handkerchief that she embroidered with ivory silk thread by hand on white organza. I designed it in batiks by from the Nouveau collection by Banyan Batiks in 2026.

Susan Elizabeth’s Block can be made by hand or machine reverse applique with applique, giving it added dimension. Pattern has step-by-step directions for all creation methods using Eye of the Beholder’s easier Trace, Baste, Snip & Stitch method for hand, or Trace, Snip, Iron & Stitch method for machine and full-size, durable pattern pieces.
