Molas with a Modern Twist (Virtual)

Molas are incredibly beautiful, colorful pieces made by the Kuna Indians of Panama. But is that all molas are?  For the Kuna molas are multi-layered reverse applique stitched by hand. Learn about the Kuna, their home, lives, and the molas use in their culture.  What are molas for a quilt-maker in the modern age? Learn how to think through and create a multi-layered design, and then to use Eye of the Beholder’s 4-step method to hand stitch it. We’ll explore the questions can you make a mola by machine? And do you quilt molas? How? Find out the answers to these questions and more in Molas with a Modern Twist.

At all trunk shows attendees will get a glimpse into the interplay of color, pattern and design Ms. Willingham uses. Gain an understanding of the techniques she employs, Trace, Baste, Snip & Stitch to create her multi-layered reverse appliqué Molas with a modern twist by hand.  Be encouraged to trust your creative instincts as you quilt, add a touch of elegance to your life.
