Grandmother’s Kitchen is an intermediate level quilt pattern for hand or machine reverse applique and applique. It was inspired by pictures a friend took of old wall decor she unearthed when she renovated her kitchen. This wallpaper layer was likely from the 30’s or 40’s. I loved the charming designs. The design came together when Island Batik put out the design call for these Flour Sack collection batiks. What you have before you is the creative result of all these elements coming together. to make this Quilt that evokes memories of 100 different “Grandmother’s” kitchens of cozy love and warm food.

We quilted and then assembled our quilt using a Quilt-as-you-go method. We give step-by-step instructions. We used the spacer method for adding the borders, which is then covered with a sashing strip. For this you need a 1/2” Sasher tool to make the sashing. We sell the pattern two ways: with the 1/2” sasher included or without the 1/2” sasher.

Pattern has complete creation instructions using Eye of the Beholder’s Trace, Baste, Snip & Stitch technique, supported by Technique Tutorials and blogs on this website, and full-size, durable pattern pieces.  There’s never a need to enlarge the pattern or re-position fabric.
